Jaci Eisenberg, Roxana Radu, and Dmitriy Skougarevskiy received honours for work related to their studies at the Institute this October.

Jaci Eisenberg and Dmitriy Skougarevskiy both received Academic Platform Switzerland UN (APSUN) awards which honour students for outstanding research on the United Nations. Jaci Eisenberg, PhD candidate in International History from the United States, was awarded for her paper "The status of women: a bridge from the League of Nations to the United Nations" related to her doctoral research on American women and international Geneva from 1919-1939. The paper was recognised for its unique continuous approach to studying League of Nations and the United Nations rather than examining the entities separately as most scholars have done. In her paper, Ms Eisenberg posits that in examining the status of women, the gap between these two organisations can be narrowed.

Dimitriy Skougarevskiy, a Master in International Economics student from Russia, was awarded by APSUN for his paper "Agenda Shift in a Consensus-building United Nations General Assembly”. The paper presents  analysis of the text of topics discussed in the United Nations General Assembly. Mr Skougarevskiy’s research looks at what types of issues are likely to reach consensus in the Assembly and determines that in order to do so agenda setters only pursue subjects that do not approach key ideological borderlines between states.

The Academic Platform Switzerland UN’s secretariat is based at the Institute. Its purpose is to strengthen partnerships between academia and international organisations.

Roxana Radu, PhD candidate in International Relations/Political Science from Romania, was recognised by the Internet Society and named Ambassador to the Internet Governance Forum, a UN-led initiative focusing on public policy issues in the area of internet governance which took place this November. The Internet Governance Forum Ambassadorship award was created to competitively select young leaders who demonstrate experience in leading internet governance discussions at the international level and in multi-cultural environments.
