Renowned Experts Join as the LL.M. in International Law Welcomes New Students

The new class of the LL.M. in International Law arrived at the Institute in September for a series of welcome and orientation events that culminated with a cocktail reception at the Restaurant des délégués of the United Nations in Geneva.  Participants in this years’ cohort come from a wide range of countries and legal backgrounds, and will all bring a diversity of experiences to the LL.M. Programme and the Graduate Institute.

With an emphasis on the practice of international law, the LL.M. Programme is taught by the faculty of the International Law Department at the Institute (as well as our adjunct and emeritus professors), by faculty from other universities and by many different international legal practitioners based Geneva and abroad.

In the first two weeks of the programme, LL.M. participants had sessions with H.E. Ambassador Jürg Lindenmann, Deputy Director of the Directorate of International Law at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, and Dr Alex Conte, Director of International Law and Protection Programmes at the International Commission of Jurists.

In addition to their international law courses, students will also have the opportunity to discuss legal problems in tutorials, develop their professional skills in practical workshops and participate in a law clinic with external organisations.  Further still, LL.M. participants may specialise in one of three areas during their studies: (i) the Protection of Vulnerable Groups; (ii) International Economic Law; or (iii) Environment, Energy and Natural Resources.

Applications for admission to the LL.M. in International Law for the next academic year 2015-2016 are being invited from 29 September 2014 until 15 January 2015 at:
