SNIS to Fund Three Projects

Researchers from the Institute selected for policy-relevant projects.

In June the Swiss Network for International Studies (SNIS) announced the results of its call for projects for 2013. Three of the eight projects which qualified for the highly competitive selection are led by researchers from the Graduate Institute. Projects funded by SNIS are chosen for their academic excellence, interdisciplinarity, policy relevance, and partnerships with international organisations.

Among the projects to be supported is “Diffusion of Clean Energy Technology for Green Economy in Developing Countries” led by Professor of International Relations/Political Science, Liliana Andonova. It aims to identify the obstacles that hinder the access to clean technologies in developing countries and to assess which procedures at the governance level may be applied in order to facilitate their diffusion. The research team includes associates from the Institute’s Centre for International Environmental Studies.

Also to be funded is “Aiding Peace? Donor Behaviour in Conflict-Affected Countries”, headed by Susanna Campbell, a post-doctoral researcher at the Institute’s Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding. The project will assess donors’ behavior in post-conflict situations and state formation processes and detect to what extent their activities take local factors into account. Professor Jean-Louis Arcand and other researchers from the Institute will be involved in the project.

Time to look at girls: adolescent girls migration and development”, coordinated by Katarzyna Grabska, affiliated researcher at the Institute’s Programme on Gender and Global Change, will be funded by SNIS as well. The project will examine specific gendered and generational dynamics and experiences of migrant adolescent girls in the Global South and explore their impacts on development. Jérôme Elie, Executive Director of the Institute’s Programme for the Study of Global Migration, is co-coordinator of the Project.
