SNSF Starting Grants at the International Law Department

The  Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) awards generous Starting Grants to enable researchers to carry out their own independent project and lead a research team in Switzerland.  They are awarded for over five years. The internal deadline for expressions of interest for support is  10 March 2026.

The Graduate Institute’s International Law Department can provide a stimulating environment for projects related to international and transnational law and is happy to host Starting Grant recipients and to support applications.

If you are interested in applying to a Starting Grant hosted with us, please send us a file comprising the following elements:

  • CV
  • Project summary
  • 2 references
  • 2-3 sample publications
  • Course evaluations + syllabi (if available)
NB – The Department Chair may request additional documents from candidates as needed.
  • The candidate’s dossier undergoes an internal evaluation within the Department following the
    Department’s internal procedure.
  • At least 4 weeks prior to the application deadline, the Department Chair will communicate the Department’s decision to the candidate and the Research Office.

Please send your documents by 10 of March 2026 to the Department Manager, Alain Vogel, at alain.vogel@graduateinstitute.ch

All candidates’ files will be discussed by the department faculty, with a decision on support to be expected by early April.
