As the consequences of the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan continue to mount, the Institute’s thoughts are with its community members and those close to them who may have suffered.
One of the Institute’s partner institutions, the Nippon Foundation/CANPAN, has launched an initiative to raise funds to assist the relief organisations currently working in the affected areas and the reconstruction work that will follow. The Nippon Foundation has extensive experience working with local partners to provide support after disasters such as the Great Hanshin Earthquake of 1995, and more recently the Mid Niigata Earthquake and Noto Peninsula Earthquake.
The Nippon Foundation provides support for doctoral candidates in the International Law Academic Unit of the Institute. It is also a major donor to and plays an important role in the leadership of the Tokyo Foundation which provides annual scholarships to students at the Institute through its Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (SYLFF).
More information on the Northeastern Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund by the Nippon Foundation/CANPAN is available online.
