UNESCO Chair in Comparative Education Policy Holds Inaugural International Symposium

On 30 March 2023, Scott R. Stroud, Associate Professor of Communication Studies at the University of Texas at Austin, will present his keynote lecture on "Ambedkar, Dewey, and the Evolution of Pragmatism in India", where he will look at the legacy of Bhimrao Ambedkar, the chief architect of India’s constitution and a powerful proponent of rights and respect for India’s most oppressed.

The keynote speech will shed light on Ambedkar’s time in New York, and his educational and intellectual relationship with his teacher from Columbia University, John Dewey. It will also highlight Ambedkar’s appropriation of Deweyan concepts and methods to forge a new vision of pragmatism.

On 21 February 2023, the Geneva Graduate Institute inaugurated the UNESCO Chair in Comparative Education Policy, created to strengthen policy research in education with the vision of amplifying the voices and promoting knowledge from the Global South.

Professor Gita Steiner-Khamsi is the first Chair holder and Professor Chanwoong Baek has been appointed as the Co-Chair.
