Visit to Federal Archives in Bern

CDHM updates on its Digitisation Pole activities

On June 11, 2025 CDHM Co-Director Prof. Grégoire Mallard, postdoctoral researcher Charlotte Roy, IHEID Head of Library Yves Corpataux, and the Institute's archivist made the trip to the Swiss Federal Archives in Bern along with digitisation consultants  to source potential digitisation samples from the collection of William Rappard for on-going projects. Reserving 10 to 14 boxes donated by IHEID during both the Rappard and Jacques Freymond eras, the group reviewed samples of documents to inform later digitisation decisions for content that would be used across CDHM research axes and digital platforms.

Consisting mostly of paper files, complemented by photographic, sound and film material as well as digital data, the Swiss Federal Archives hold the documents of the Federal State’s political bodies and the Federal Administration since 1798. In total, the archives' holdings comprise over 60 linear kilometres and more than 18 terabytes.
