The International Labour Organization, the International Telecommunications Union, Interpeace, Lundin Petroleum, Credit Suisse and the International Security Sector Advisory Team are just a few of the organisations and companies where Graduate Institute students are working during the summer months. Many of them found their positions through the Institute’s Career Services, which provides recruitment for organisations and assists candidates throughout the recruitment process.

“As part of the ILO Rural Team this summer, I help stimulate, coordinate and monitor the organisation’s work in rural areas disseminating research results and promoting decent working conditions”, said Mayra Cortes Medina, Master in Development Studies student. “I was recruited for the job through the Institute’s Career Services and they helped me with all my ‘how to’ questions like drafting my CV.”

Zoë Falquet, pursuing a Master in International Law, is working as assistant to the Vice-President in Corporate Responsibility/Health Security and Environment at Lundin Petroleum. She was also recruited for this post through Career Services. “The job really helps me put into practice what I learned at the Institute”, she said. “With a personal session with Career Services the day before, I was calm and confident the day of the interview.”
 
PhD candidate in International Relations/Political Science, Smruthi Rammohan, who will intern at ISSAT said: “This internship gives me a great experience to work in an international environment. The Services played a very important role throughout the application process."

Xanthoula Apostolou, Master in International Affairs student, is enrolled in the Credit Suisse Private Banking Career Starter programme. “The interview simulation significantly prepared me for the interview with the hiring manager”, she said.

Others who received assistance to get summer positions were Veronica Aleotti, pursuing an MIA, who will be carrying out an at ITU and Eleanor Khonje, Master in Development Studies student, who has begun an internship at Interpeace.

Dorina Dervishi, Career Advisor at the Institute said, “I am pleased to help our students obtain a variety of assignments, long-term and short-term, at public, private and non-profit sector organisations through recruiting, application and interview coaching”.
