Profile

Alessandra Romani is a Visiting Lecturer in the International Relations/Political Science Department and a Research Associate at the Global Governance Centre of the Geneva Graduate Institute. Her research focuses on the political economy of crisis and development finance; in particular, she explores the gaps and challenges currently facing the international financial system, the factors that shape the evolution of financial and development institutions, and the impact that ongoing geopolitical shifts have on international economic cooperation. Before joining the Centre, Alessandra was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Royal Holloway, University of London, where she worked with Prof. Thomas Stubbs on the politics and performance of international financial institutions; she was also Visiting Lecturer at the European School of Political and Social Sciences of the Université Catholique de Lille, where she taught a course on “Institutions of Global Economic Governance”. Alessandra received her Ph.D. in International Relations/Political Science from the Geneva Graduate Institute, with a thesis on sovereign debt management in times of crisis; during her doctoral studies, she was Visiting Scholar at the University of Michigan’s Centre for Political Studies.
