Marcello Finocchiaro studied Information Technologies in Geneva (Analyste-Programmeur avec Brevet Fédéral, Informatique). Further to his graduation in 1993, he became an IT consultant for software engineering companies, working for both private companies and public sector organisations.

In 1998, as a technical consultant working for Nagravision (Kudelski) in Lausanne, he led the migration of the management and broadcasting system for digital television of Telefonica and Via Digital in Madrid which impacted millions of users.

In 1999, he joined Firmenich, a leader in the Flavor and Perfumery industry. He successfully held several positions ranging from Business Analyst for chemical ingredients to head of the IT competency center in charge of sales & marketing (flavour, ingredients and perfumery).

As of 2007, he joined the management team responsible for the acquisition of the flavour division of Danisco, a bio-based company specialized in enzymes, bio-products and food production among others. He delivered new IT tools designed to speed-up Supply Chain and Sales & Marketing processes while leading a data management team in charge of maintaining and enhancing data quality across the various IT systems. As of 2009, he became Project Director.

In 2014, Marcello joined the Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne where he was in charge of analysing and documenting all operational business processes, data flows, and delivering associated operational risks with mitigation plans.  

In 2016, he was given the opportunity to setup a Programme & Portfolio Management process which had as an objective to develop project governance and best practices with the entire management team. At the end of 2018, the Gartner consulting firm assessed the maturity level of processes related to Programme & Portfolio Management and awarded a 3.6 score. At that particular time, the benchmark for Higher Education was 2.3.

In 2018, in view of the opening of a new campus in Singapore, as part of the management team, and in collaboration with the Head of the IT department, Marcello elaborated and presented the IT responses in order to meet the accreditation requirements of the local government.

As of 2019, he joined a newly created innovation team where he trained an AI to become a virtual Admission Officer which could chat with the general public and the media in order to provide information about the Bachelor in Hospitality Management study programme.

In 2020, he joined the Geneva Graduate Institute to lead the Information Systems team in the IT department. He initiates and oversees many strategic related projects such as Blockchain implementation for diplomas, Alumni portal and so on. He endeavours to include all the relevant actors in the development of the Institute’s projects.
