Mô Bleeker is an internationally recognised Swiss mediator, facilitator, and expert in conflict transformation, transitional justice, and atrocity prevention. On 5 March 2024, she was appointed as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on the Responsibility to Protect, reflecting her lifelong commitment to peacebuilding and human rights.

With a distinguished career spanning over two decades, Mô Bleeker previously served as Special Envoy for Dealing with the Past and Prevention of Atrocities at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA). Her extensive experience includes roles as Chair of the Transitional Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) of the Bangsamoro Peace Agreement in the Philippines and as Special Envoy for the Colombian Peace Process, contributing significantly to the peace agreements with the National Liberation Army and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). She also presided over the International Advisory Group of Colombia’s National Historical Memory Center.

Mô Bleeker is a strategic thinker and seasoned practitioner, renowned for designing innovative, tailored processes that foster local leadership, inclusivity, and cooperation across diverse groups. She has worked extensively in Central and Latin America, the Balkans, Central and Southeast Asia, the Caucasus, Africa, and the Middle East. As Chair of the Global Action Against Mass Atrocity Crimes (GAAMAC), she spearheaded efforts to prevent atrocities worldwide and promoted horizontal reflection and emergent policies in transitional justice.

Her academic credentials include a Master’s degree in political anthropology, religion sciences, and social communication from the University of Fribourg and a postgraduate diploma in development studies from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) in Geneva. Multilingual, Mô Bleeker is fluent in Dutch, French, English, German, and Spanish, enabling her to engage effectively across diverse cultural contexts.

An accomplished author and documentarian, she has published numerous articles and a book on El Salvador’s history, alongside creating several documentaries focused on social justice and reconciliation. Through her commitment to peace, justice, and the rule of law, Mô Bleeker continues to shape global approaches to atrocity prevention and transitional justice.
