Signe Krogstrup, a distinguished economist and central banking leader, has built a remarkable career dedicated to advancing monetary policy, economic resilience, and international financial stability. Born in Denmark, she pursued her academic studies in economics at the University of Copenhagen and earned a PhD in International Economics from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. Her journey into central banking and global economics began with early roles in economic research and policy advisory, setting the foundation for her extensive career across prominent institutions, including Danmarks Nationalbank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the Swiss National Bank.
Krogstrup’s initial work took her to the Swiss National Bank, where she held various key positions, including Assistant Director and Deputy Head of Monetary Policy Analysis. Here, she developed expertise in monetary policy and financial stability, overseeing critical analysis and strategic planning in response to global economic fluctuations. Her insights and experience in navigating complex financial environments were further honed during her tenure at the IMF, where she served as a Senior Advisor, contributing to global economic research and policy recommendations in Washington, D.C
In 2019, Krogstrup joined Danmarks Nationalbank as Assistant Governor and Head of Economics and Monetary Policy before being appointed one of its three Governors in 2020. In this leadership role, she has been instrumental in shaping Denmark’s monetary policy, guiding the nation's economic response to global challenges, and ensuring financial stability within Denmark and across the Nordic region. Her influence extends beyond national borders, as she actively participates in major economic councils, including the EU Economic and Financial Committee and the Nordic-Baltic Monetary and Finance Committee. She has also contributed to the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council, where her work addresses critical issues related to global economic imbalances and climate change
