From 1977 to 2006, Jacques Forster was professor at the Graduate Institute of Development Studies (IUED) ; he was its Director from 1980 to 1992. He was a member of the Graduate Institute's Foundation Board from 2007 until 2018 and its Chairman from 2010 to 2014. He was a member of the Assembly of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) from 1988 to 2010 as well as its Vice-President from 1999 until 2007. He has authored publications on north/south relations, international development cooperation and humanitarian action.
