BIOGRAPHY
Dr Jayita Sarkar is an Associate Professor in Economic and Social History at the University of Glasgow. Her research specialisation is in global South Asia, connected partitions, global histories of capitalism, and nuclear technologies. She is the author of Ploughshares and Swords: India’s Nuclear Program in the Global Cold War (Cornell University Press, 2022). The book examines India’s nuclear programme (1940s-1980s) through the prisms of technopolitics and territoriality to show how nuclear and space technologies served technopolitical aims of economic modernity and geopolitical goals of deterring adversaries, with consequences for democratic accountability.
The Joint ANSO / IHP Tuesday Seminars is a regular series of discussions co-organized by the International History and Politics and Anthropology and Sociology Departments at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies to discuss a variety of global questions from a multiplicity of historically and ethnographically-informed perspectives.
The Seminars take place every Tuesday from 16:15 to 18:00 in Seminar Room 5 (S5) at the Graduate Institute (Maison de la paix), and are followed by an apero open to the attending public.
