What Peace? Fragmented Perceptions of Peacebuilding in Syria

The following report tackles the pressing question of Syrian peacebuilding. It maps out how Syrians perceive peace both normatively and practically, situates these perceptions within respective historical trajectories and claims to statehood, and interlinks these dynamics with the peacebuilding agendas espoused by foreign actors involved in the conflict. Although the report indicates a frozen military reality on the ground, coupled with diverging peacebuilding narratives, it sets out several recommendations which could facilitate more grounded discussions on the future of the Syrian nation.
