Widowhood in Post-Conflict Situations:‬ ‭ Lessons Learned from Cameroon, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone

‬ ‭Widows‬‭ in‬‭ post-conflict‬‭ settings‬‭ face‬‭ a‬‭ distinct‬‭ set‬‭ of‬‭ challenges‬‭ that‬‭ differ‬‭ from‬‭ those‬ ‭ faced‬‭ by‬‭ other‬‭ women‬‭ or‬‭ war-affected‬‭ groups.‬‭ Their‬‭ status‬‭ brings‬‭ unique‬‭ vulnerabilities,‬ ‭ including‬‭ harmful‬‭ cultural‬‭ widowhood‬‭ rituals,‬‭ stigma,‬‭ denied‬‭ inheritance‬‭ rights,‬‭ often‬ ‭ abandoned‬‭ by‬‭ family,‬‭ and‬‭ left‬‭ to‬‭ care‬‭ for‬‭ children‬‭ alone.‬‭ This shapes the condition of widows at the intersection‬‭ of‬‭ gender,‬‭ loss,‬ tradition, and conflict.
