Biodiversity vs. Bureaucracy: Unpacking Legislative Barriers in Geneva

Applied Research Project (ARP) conducted in collaboration with the Biodiversity Task Force of the city of Geneva as part of the implementation of Axis D, Measure 15 of the municipal Biodiversity Strategy. The project analyses Geneva's biodiversity-related legal framework and, through comparative research with four other cities (Berlin, Curitiba, Kobe and Zurich), formulates recommendations on transferable and necessary policies to strengthen Geneva’s biodiversity governance. These include establishing binding obligations for municipal and private landowners in land-use and other regulations, creating incentives for ecological enhancement and preservation, and integrating biodiversity considerations into the broader legal framework.
