Seaborne migration continues to pose humanitarian and operational challenges for all maritime actors. While under-analyzed, commercial shipping vessels have played an increasingly significant role in search and rescue operations involving migrants and refugees at sea. This applied research project examines the legal, humanitarian, operational, and psychological challenges faced by commercial shipping vessels engaged in maritime migrant rescues.
