Developed as an instrument to advance the geoeconomic interests of its members, the G7 has been challenged in recent years by countries in the Global South. Led by China, these countries have established and used alternative fora such as BRICS to advance their own revisionist narratives of the global order, contesting the universalist US-led rhetoric.
