Protection and Maintenance of Essential Civilian Infrastructure in Times of Armed Conflict: Relevant Legal, Policy and Practical Frameworks

The overall aim of this research project is to help strengthen the ability of States and humanitarian actors to prevent and respond to the devastating humanitarian impact of conflict on essential infrastructure. This will be done by identifying the domestic frameworks – legal, policy and practical – that establish, service, and regulate critical civilian infrastructure. With this information in hand, we will be better placed to ensure that these frameworks can be appropriately leveraged in times of armed conflict to secure ongoing maintenance and functioning of such infrastructure.
