Reimagining Responses to Forced Migration

A partnership project in collaboration with the Local Engagement Refugee Research Network (LERRN), Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), and 29 other organizations.

As the scale and complexity and forced migration grows, faced with an international community unable to effectively respon to the challenge, it is clear that new approaches are needed to address the challenges of displacement.

Following the successful implementation of a partnership grant attributed to the Local Engagement Refugee Research Network (LERRN) in 2018, a new partnership project focused on "Reimagining Responses to Forced Migration" was launched in September 2025.

This partnership project is funded in part by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), as well as contributions from 29 partner organisations including the Global Migration Centre.

The project aims to mobilize a global partnership that embraces a wide range of perspectives, generates new forms of knowledge and unites diverse actors in designing and promoting transformative, yet practical responses to forced migration.

At its core, the partnership aims to centre the knowledge and expertise of those most affected by displacement to shape forced migration studies, policy and practice, contributing to a global forced migration response system that is more effective, legitimate and accountable for and to those most affected by displacement.
