This Summit is by invitation only. Registrations are now closed.

The heads of major think tanks from around the world will gather in Geneva on 4-6 December for the first Global Think Tank Summit. The theme of the Summit will be Think Tanks, Public Policy and Governance: National, Regional and Global Perspectives.

The agenda will focus on a mix of economic, development, and security issues, with a special emphasis on the Post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals and their funding, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. The Summit will additionally focus on the role of threats and crises (regional and health crises, among others) in disrupting institutional priorities and eroding political, economic, and social progress.

The Summit will open on 4 December at the United Nations Office at Geneva, with the participation of representatives from many of the international organizations based in Geneva. The closed proceedings on 5-6 December will be convened at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva.

Recognising Geneva’s potential as a global center for think tanks, organisers aim for the Summit to pave the way for creating a dynamic and innovative community that collaborates in areas such as Human Rights, Global Health, Humanitarian Action, Security and Internet Governance.

One of the innovations of the Global Think Tank Summit is to engage the leaders of tomorrow in conversations about how to tackle some of today’s most difficult challenges.

Students and young professionals interested in engaging Summit participants in a lunchtime discussion of how to tackle today’s global challenges are invited to submit 1-page proposals by 24 November. The detailed ‘call for ideas’ for submitting a proposal can be viewed here.

Organisers of the Summit include the University of Pennsylvania’s Think Tank Civil Societies Program and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva, and partners include the United Nations Office at Geneva, the Swiss Confederation, foraus, the US Mission in Geneva, and the Fondation pour Genève.
