He has worked on financing for development issues - including MSME financing - since 2014, and has undertaken research on sustainable and climate finance and the digitalization of tax administration since 2021. Dr. Isgut will present his current research on How Can Developing Countries Gather Enough Financing to Undertake Critical Investments in Climate Action? An Exploration.
Description
The risks of economic losses due to severe storms, floods, wildfires, droughts, and sea level rise caused by climate change are on the rise and expected to increase significantly. Mitigating these risks requires substantial investments in decarbonization and climate adaptation. However, increased debt burdens and reduced fiscal space over the last decade or so, along with the traditional high borrowing costs faced by developing countries in international capital markets are major obstacles to gather the necessary financing. This seminar will discuss preliminary research results on challenges and possible solutions for developing countries to scale up critical investments in climate action.
