The Graduate Institute, the FIFOG - Geneva International Oriental Film Festival and the UMAM Lebanon Association and its Swiss branch invite you to an evening in homage to Lokman Slim, intellectual, essayist, filmmaker, documentary filmmaker and archivist, who was assassinated on 4 February, 2021, in southern Lebanon. For the record, UMAM is a documentation and research centre that has built up a crucial archive devoted to the Lebanese civil war and this region of the Middle East.

After the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982, Massaker documents the executions carried out at the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps during the Lebanese civil war in a radical manner. Filmed 20 years after the tragic events, it portrays the testimonies of six Maronite militiamen who participated in the massacre. 

The documentary, produced by Lokman Slim and Monika Borgmann, has won several awards at various cinematic festivals, including Visions du réel in Nyon. 

The film will be screened in Arabic with subtitles in English. It will be followed by a discussion moderated by Professor Riccardo Bocco of the Graduate Institute and Jean Perret, and in the presence of Monika Borgmann. 

This free event is organised in collaboration with the International Oriental Film Festival of Geneva and UMAN Lebanon Association and its Swiss branch.

L’Institut de hautes études internationales et du développement, le FIFOG - Festival international du film oriental de Genève et l’Association UMAM Liban et sa branche Suisse vous invitent à une soirée en hommage à Lokman Slim, intellectuel, essayiste, cinéaste, documentariste et archiviste, assassiné le 4 février 2021 dans le Sud du Liban. Pour mémoire, UMAM est un Centre de documentation et de recherche qui a constitué une Archive cruciale consacrée à la guerre civile libanaise et à cette région du Proche-Orient.

Le documentaire, réalisé par Lokman Slim et Monika Borgmann, a été primé par divers festivals de cinéma, dont Visions du réel à Nyon. 

Le film sera en version arabe et sous-titré en anglais. Il sera suivi par un débat modéré par le professeur Riccardo Bocco de l’Institut et Jean Perret, et en présence de l’une des réalisatrices, Monika Borgmann. 

Cet événement gratuit est organisé en collaboration avec le Festival international du film oriental de Genève (FIFOG) et l’Association UMAM Liban et sa branche suisse.
