Covid-19 is a stark reminder of the need for cooperation across borders, sectors and generations. Our response will determine how fast the world recovers, and how well we handle other pressing and emerging challenges: from the climate crisis to growing inequality, rapid changes in technology to new forms of violence.
On the occasion of the International Day of Multilateralism and as part of the UN@75 global initiative of the UN Secretary-General, students from the Graduate Institute, Barbara Leia Mcintyre and Samuel Pablo Pareira (Master in International Affairs), as well as students from the University of Geneva and foraus will engage in a frank and open dialogue with the heads of key international organisations and will address questions on the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on multilateral cooperation and the need for global solidarity during and after the crisis.
Speakers will include Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Fabrizio Hochschild, Under Secretary-General and Special Advisor on Preparations for the Seventy-Fifth United Nations Anniversary, Martin Chungong, Secretary-General of the Interparliamentary Union, Fabiola Gianotti, Director-General of CERN, Houlin Zhao, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, Guy Ryder, Director-General of the International Labour Organisation, and Noel Curran, Director-General, European Broadcasting Union.
The virtual event is organised by the UN Office at Geneva in collaboration with the Graduate Institute, the University of Geneva and Foraus and will be streamed live on webtv.un.org. Viewers will be able to ask questions through an online platform and details regarding how to do this will be provided shortly before the start of the event.
