event description

Transboundary and intercultural research partnerships are critical for solving global challenges related to economic development and environmental sustainability. Collaborations between research partners in Switzerland and the Global South benefit from guidance provided by the Commission for Research Partnerships with Developing Countries' (KFPE’s) 11 Principles that distill rich institutional learning from previous partnerships. However, researchers and scientific funding institutions face prominent regional challenges in achieving these Principles.

Regional challenges are broadly understood as characteristics of local research environments that present a barrier for building fair and impactful research partnerships. At this public event, senior researchers and representatives from scientific institutions from Africa, Asia and Switzerland will share their rich insights and experiences of prominent regional challenges across different contexts, as well as potential solutions for building and evaluating successful transboundary partnerships. The key discussion points will be published alongside results from an ongoing research survey to publish a research brief on this topic. Please contact the organizers to receive a copy of this report.

This event is especially insightful for:

  • Researchers considering or planning to engage in fair and equal partnership towards a common goal

  • Existing research partnerships striving for innovative research and a a fruitful learning culture, both based on mutual trust and responsibility

  • Funding agencies designing programmes for effective intercultural research collaboration

  • Policymakers aiming at establishing an enabling environment for effective research collaborations

  • Development organisations encouraging contextualisation of scientific knowledge through facilitation and brokering International organisations dealing with knowledge-based solutions to global challenges.
