Alumnus Appointed to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Helsinki

The Government of Finland appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Tuomas Tapio as Director General of the Department for International Trade in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The appointment is for a fixed term from 19 September 2022 and 31 August 2026. 

Tuomas Tapio was Finland’s Ambassador to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris from 15 January 2019 to 20 February 2023. In the Ministry, he has been Director of Policy Planning and Director of the Unit for Western Europe. In the Prime Minister’s Office he has led the External Economic Relations Unit. In the diplomatic service, Tuomas Tapio has previously worked in Paris and Washington, D.C. 

Tuomas Tapio joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1997. He holds both a master and a doctoral degree in International Politics from the Geneva Graduate Institute, earned, respectively, in 1996 and 2003.
