My recent work has been on memory studies in the context of post-military dictatorship and state violence in Indonesia. My Master’s research was titled “Mengingat Genosida ’65: Remembering the 1965 Anti-Communist Genocide in Indonesia” where I explored remembering as a framework of resistance against state violence in Indonesia. I am currently an active member of ALTERSEA and Warisan Ingatan.

PhD Provisional Thesis Title: Desire for a Queer Memory Work in Indonesia
PhD Supervisor: Umut Yildirim
My doctoral research explores the intersecting forms of archival work, counter-tours, and care work in Yogyakarta. As I see these intersecting forms as memory works, I look into its politics which revolve around the persisting taboos from Indonesia’s New Order regime. I attempt to challenge present-day political reading in Indonesia by giving account to how tracing silences from taboos, navigating queerly within memory work. In the end, seeing how interrogating memory work could give critical accounts in post-colonial nationhood.
