Profile
Sara Ewad is an MA/PhD researcher in international law at the Geneva Graduate Institute, admitted through the Institute's selective Fast Track scheme. Her doctoral research (supervised by Professor Paola Gaeta; expected completion 2030), examines whether the interaction of the Genocide Convention and international humanitarian law limits the recognition of genocide committed in armed conflict. She is a doctoral researcher on the Swiss National Science Foundation project 'Holding the Line: Genocide, War, and International Responsibility'. Her broader research interests include the history and theory of international law and international human rights law.
Before joining the Institute, Sara practised for over six years as an associate in the International Dispute Resolution Group at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, London, advising sovereign states, heads of state, international organisations and NGOs in public international law disputes, international arbitration and English court litigation. She holds an LLB from King's College London and is a solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales (non-practising).
