Data Stewardship

  • Timeline: 2023 – 2024
  • Funding institution: Swissuniversities

Open data is data that can be freely used, reused, and redistributed by anyone. In an effort to encourage open data best practice at the Institute, the Library and Tech Hub received funding from Swissuniversities to develop a Data Stewardship Network at the Institute. Originally introduced by TU Delft, this new role consists of training and supporting researchers in managing and sharing their research data to ensure that it is accessible, usable, secure and trustworthy.

Although social sciences do not always allow researchers to share their data openly, there are some alternatives that can be beneficial to the scientific endeavour. The Data Steward collaborates with various internal partners (library, IT, departments and research centres) and external networks (national and international) to assess and respond to researchers' needs for information, skills and infrastructure.

CONTENTS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

In line with the approach that seeks to collaborate with the Institute community interested in research data management and open data, the project has the following objectives:

  • Build a community of practice
  • Map existing resources
  • Develop an open research data policy
  • Train researchers in open science and data management
  • Foster the sharing of best practice
  • Establish a network of data champions in departments and research centres

Through these efforts, we aim to strengthen the Institute's open science and research data capabilities.

JOIN US!

At this stage, we are actively recruiting interested members of the Institute's community - from PhD students to tenured professors - who are interested in learning and sharing about open science and research data. Join us in fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation in open data.

TEAM

The project’s core team includes:

  • Jérôme Duberry, Managing Director, Tech Hub, Geneva Graduate Institute,
  • Guillaume Pasquier, Digital Librarian, Geneva Graduate Institute
  • Pedro Maia, International Relations and Political Science Department, Geneva Graduate Institute
