Discover the stories imagined by the Swiss youth on the future of AI and democracy.
This September, the Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy at the Geneva Graduate Institute launched a new scientific communication project dedicated to youth in Switzerland. We have two objectives: (1) raise awareness about the opportunities and issues of artificial intelligence for the Swiss democracy, and (2) about the plurality of futures and their important role in co-building these futures among youth.
We are conducting over 60 workshops with young people in all three Swiss linguistic regions and will publish stories imagined by them on a bi-weekly basis. Find out more about our methodology here.
The stories allow us to discuss the political implications of technology on democracy. They do not have the ambition to illustrate youth’s hopes and dreams about the future but rather their capacity to combine their imagination and creativity with AI. By doing so, it enables them to develop a critical perspective of this technology, and become better equipped to choose when and how to use AI.

In 2050, Geneva was the scene of an unexpected democratic revolution, orchestrated by a futuristic creation: the Chaise de la Sagesse. This floating sphere, powered by sustainable AI, sat majestically in public spaces, becoming the symbol of the future of democracy.
The Chair of Wisdom was more than just a seat. It was the benevolent guardian of collective aspirations. Its advanced artificial intelligence subtly detected the ambient mood, the educational, physical and mental needs of the population. The citizens of Geneva were happy to sit on it, not only to rest, but also to share their concerns and aspirations.
The political implications were revolutionary. The Chair of Wisdom became the focal point where political decisions were made organically. Political leaders came to listen to the murmurings of the population, guided by a keen understanding of society's true needs.
The universal accessibility of the Chair of Wisdom eliminated the traditional barriers between rulers and ruled. Political debate blossomed naturally, transcending partisan divisions. Decisions were made with the general well-being, mental health and education of the population in mind.
Elections became a transparent and inclusive process. Every citizen had the opportunity to express his or her ideas through the Chair of Wisdom, eliminating the need for costly and often polarizing political campaigns.
Geneva became a global example of participatory democracy, where technology at the service of the community transformed politics into a shared quest for progress. The Chaise de la Sagesse lit the way to a future where politics was no longer a struggle, but a harmonious collaboration between technology, government and the people
En 2050, Genève a été le théâtre d'une révolution démocratique inattendue, orchestrée par une création futuriste : la Chaise de la Sagesse. Cette sphère flottante, alimentée par une IA durable, trône majestueusement dans les espaces publics, devenant le symbole de l'avenir de la démocratie.
La Chaise de la Sagesse était plus qu'un simple siège. Elle était la gardienne bienveillante des aspirations collectives. Son intelligence artificielle avancée détectait subtilement l'humeur ambiante, les besoins éducatifs, physiques et mentaux de la population. Les citoyens de Genève étaient heureux de s'y asseoir, non seulement pour se reposer, mais aussi pour partager leurs préoccupations et leurs aspirations.
