Discover the stories imagined by the Swiss youth on the future of AI and democracy.
This September, the Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy at the Geneva Graduate Institute is launching a new scientific communication project dedicated to youth in Switzerland. We have two objectives: (1) raise awareness about the opportunities and issues of artificial intelligence for the Swiss democracy, and (2) about the plurality of futures and their important role in co-building these futures among youth.
We are conducting over 60 workshops with young people in all three Swiss linguistic regions and will publish stories imagined by them on a bi-weekly basis. Find out more about our methodology here.
The stories allow us to discuss the political implications of technology on democracy. They do not have the ambition to illustrate youth’s hopes and dreams about the future but rather their capacity to combine their imagination and creativity with AI. By doing so, it enables them to develop a critical perspective of this technology, and become better equipped to choose when and how to use AI.

In 2050, there was an astonishing shift in the way people around the world experienced politics, thanks to a groundbreaking technological advancement. An autonomous headphone with an integrated audio device powered by sustainable AI changed the political landscape forever.
This revolutionary headphone, called "EcoVoice", was not just a simple audio device. It continuously analysed political news and debates from around the world and presented them to users in real time in an understandable and factual way. The AI behind EcoVoice was programmed to think across party lines and not to form opinions. Instead, it presented facts and different perspectives to inform users.
The result was astonishing. People began to better understand political information and became less susceptible to propaganda and disinformation. Public debates became more factual and constructive as EcoVoice encouraged users to consider different points of view and make informed decisions.
In the following years, citizens' political participation and understanding increased rapidly. Elections became more transparent and elected representatives were more focussed on the well-being of the population. The world began to be guided by more environmentally friendly political decisions as EcoVoice also focussed on sustainability and environmental protection.
The political divide between different groups narrowed and people began to pursue common goals. EcoVoice helped to overcome divisions in society and strengthen democracy.
In 2050, the EcoVoice headset became a symbol of political enlightenment and unity. People around the world wore it with pride and trusted it to help them make better political decisions. This innovative device had not only changed the political landscape, but also made the world a better place by empowering people to make informed decisions and bring about positive change.
En 2050, un progrès technologique révolutionnaire a bouleversé la façon dont les gens du monde entier vivent la politique. Un casque autonome doté d'un dispositif audio intégré alimenté par une IA durable a changé le paysage politique pour toujours.
Ce casque révolutionnaire, appelé "EcoVoice", n'était pas un simple appareil audio. Il analyse en permanence les nouvelles et les débats politiques du monde entier et les présente aux utilisateurs en temps réel, de manière compréhensible et factuelle. L'intelligence artificielle qui sous-tend l'EcoVoice a été programmée pour dépasser les clivages politiques et ne pas se forger d'opinion. Au lieu de cela, elle a présenté des faits et des points de vue différents pour informer les utilisateurs.
Le résultat a été étonnant. Les gens ont commencé à mieux comprendre les informations politiques et sont devenus moins sensibles à la propagande et à la désinformation. Les débats publics sont devenus plus factuels et constructifs, car EcoVoice a encouragé les utilisateurs à prendre en compte différents points de vue et à prendre des décisions en connaissance de cause.
