quality in switzerland
In the 1990s, Swiss universities began to introduce quality assurance measures for teaching and research. The introduction of the so-called Bologna process has encouraged Swiss universities to set up a quality assurance system to guarantee the quality of their teaching and research.
While the federal government is the guarantor of quality assurance at Swiss universities, it is the universities themselves that are responsible for the implementation and proper functioning of their internal quality assurance system. In order to reconcile their autonomy with their duty to be accountable and transparent, this internal quality assurance system is subject to an institution-wide accreditation evaluation every seven years.
quality assurance system at the InstitutE
The quality assurance system at the Institute is fully integrated into its strategic steering and operates as a central management instrument supporting the achievement of institutional objectives. It is based on structured processes, regular evaluation cycles and consolidated data, enabling the monitoring of performance and the alignment of academic, research and administrative activities with the Institute’s mission.
The system is underpinned by a progressively strengthened and widely shared culture of quality, reflected in day‑to‑day practices, participatory governance and continuous improvement mechanisms. Rooted in the Institute’s commitment to excellence, this culture is expressed through the active involvement of the academic community, the systematic use of evaluation results and the ongoing enhancement of processes and tools supporting informed decision‑making.
