Discover the stories imagined by the Swiss youth on the future of AI and democracy.
Last September, the Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy at the Geneva Graduate Institute launched a new scientific communication project dedicated to youth in Switzerland. We have two objectives: (1) raise awareness about the opportunities and issues of artificial intelligence for the Swiss democracy, and (2) about the plurality of futures and their important role in co-building these futures among youth.
We are conducting over 60 workshops with young people in all three Swiss linguistic regions and will publish stories imagined by them on a bi-weekly basis. Find out more about our methodology here.
The stories allow us to discuss the political implications of technology on democracy. They do not have the ambition to illustrate youth’s hopes and dreams about the future but rather their capacity to combine their imagination and creativity with AI. By doing so, it enables them to develop a critical perspective of this technology, and become better equipped to choose when and how to use AI.

In 2050, in Geneva, the world capital of peace and prosperity, a small mirror powered by sustainable AI emerged, revolutionizing the political and social perception of democracy. This innovative technology, dubbed "Éclat de Justice / A radiance of justice", was much more than a simple reflection. It offered a vivid glimpse of an ideal society where compassion, tolerance and fairness reigned supreme.
Politicians, skeptical at first, soon recognized the value of this tool. The mirror was placed in strategic locations around the city, offering all citizens the chance to look at themselves through the prism of social harmony. It was non-judgmental, simply reflecting a radiant image of society as a whole, encouraging everyone to reflect on their own contribution to this collective ideal.
The political implications were profound. Debates became less heated, focused on building a common future rather than partisan interests. Policy-makers, attracted by the benevolent light of the mirror, rethought their policies to reflect the aspirations of this ideal society. Transparency became the norm, integrity was valued and political accountability became a top priority.
The population, for its part, was won over by a collective sense of responsibility for the future. Communities came together to build innovative social and environmental initiatives, motivated by the vision of progress reflected in the mirror. Social barriers crumbled, giving way to mutual understanding and fruitful collaboration.
Over the years, the mirror became a symbol of Geneva's commitment to social and political perfection. Other nations followed suit, adopting similar policies of transparency, accountability and unity. Democracy, once subject to partisan struggles and selfish interests, was transformed into a truly representative model of governance, driven by the vision of a bright future for all.
In this way, the small mirror powered by sustainable AI in Geneva 2050 became much more than a mere object, it became the catalyst for a political and social revolution, reminding everyone that building a perfect society begins with introspection and the collective will to achieve a common ideal.
En 2050, à Genève, capitale mondiale de la paix et de la prospérité, un petit miroir alimenté par une IA durable a émergé, révolutionnant la perception politique et sociale de la démocratie. Cette technologie innovante, baptisée "Éclat de Justice / A radiance of justice", est bien plus qu'un simple reflet. Elle offre un aperçu vivant d'une société idéale où la compassion, la tolérance et l'équité règnent en maître.
Les hommes politiques, d'abord sceptiques, ont rapidement reconnu la valeur de cet outil.
