GOVERNING PANDEMICS 101, a new online course for beginners and professionals

Pandemics such as Covid-19 pose wicked challenges for global governance. The Global Health Centre is piloting a free, open online course designed for learners who wish to follow and engage with ongoing processes to reform global arrangements for pandemic preparedness and response. Topics include WHO; treaties; financing: sharing of data and samples; access to vaccines and drugs; trade and travel restrictions; animal-human health; human rights; humanitarian assistance; universal health coverage and geopolitics. Teaching methods include mini-lectures from a range of experts, short exercises, background readings and live discussions. The course meets for one hour every other week, with certificates available to learners who complete the course.

OBJECTIVES

  • Deepen your understanding of key concepts and current issues related to governing pandemics
  • Identify the main challenges for which reforms are being actively debated
  • Strengthen understanding of governance processes at the global level

 

WHO IS THIS PROGRAMME FOR?

This programme is relevant for anyone interested in global health, and practitioners from private, public, international organisations, and NGO sectors wishing to understand global health processes related to pandemic preparedness and response.
